This time, like last, we're staying in Lewisham but on the other side of the tracks, literally. It's a little bit less polished on this side but where sparkle may be lacking there is plenty of color. Wherever you happen to look, every continent is represented. In food, in furnishings, banks, clothing. I'll try to post a representative photo soon.
Here's a pic of a view from our flat:
It was thunder stormy when we finally got here. That was after 2 trains and a bus. This is what occurred just before we all passed out after 36 hours awake:
And another view from the living room:
We went last night to a place called Catford Constitutional. A very funky pub. We liked it so much we went back tonight. Here are a couple of pics of it inside and out. It's down an alley off a rundown pedestrian mall. I'll get more pics soon. I have a hunch we will be regulars there for the next few days.
Today was N's choice: Knoghtsbridge and Sloane Street, two of the most expensive addresses in the known world. We hung out all day waiting for the main event: car spotting Turns out this is an actual daily occurrence. N was in good company. Lots of guys and some girls had cameras, some with special microphones, at the ready. Towards the evening we were not disappointed. Everyone went nuts and I mean cashews and almonds and pistachios for this Bugatti conveniently parked outside of Harrods:
No one was at all interested in the Rolls Royce behind it.
Don't worry, we actually got to the Victoria and Albert museum between car spottings. We had a very wonderful lunch in the cafe downstairs. Here's A in that cozy dining area:
I believe there is a ton of William Morris paraphernalia surrounding diners here. The room was very beautiful, complete with a quote embedded in the tiles about how a person should live well by doing good work. There's also a separate William Morris museum somewhere around here I would like to visit, Dad.
This post is completely out of order...I will try to be more linear next time. In the meantime here is N on Sloane with a car he will have to identify later in the background.
And here's a picture of the abandoned Syrian embassy we passed on our way back to the wrong side of the tracks:
