I'm of two minds both of which are in the title of the post. I'm afraid to admit that it was both inspired and stupid to leave our iPad at home. In any event here I am attempting to blog from my phone from an attic apartment in Ljubljana Slovenia where I am using wifi because I may not have service here. Also I may not be able to post pictures from this phone and also and also and also...for anyone who cares the 20+ hour trip was predictably grueling. So I will skip all of the simultaneous stultification and terror that goes with flying (to paraphrase my dad) not to mention the unbelievable contempt in which the airlines hold passengers but that's neither here nor there rather up in the air (and sometimes in the airport as well). Anyway I'm going to attempt to post a couple of photos from the bus ride from the Venice airport to Ljubljana. Then a view from our very nice L-shaped garret.
OK, that didnt go well...Im going to have to figure out how to load pics from the new phone...it seems very resistant to this transaction...my typing will now be atrocious because Im on a foreign keyboard. The people who rented us this apartment are very very nice and thoughtfully have a laptop here for their guests. The apartment is like a mentioned, L shaped and on like the fifth floor(I lost count on the climb) of this building that is set back on a very busy street but the bedrooms look out on a quieter parklike area.
Getting here from the Venice airport was slightly harrowing. After so many hours of not sleeping in a semi upright position with a rock for a cushion and blaring lights and very audible announcements for atmosphere I was not really in the mood to wait five hours for a shuttle to Ljubljana by exploring Mestre with our suitcases in tow. Poor Adsy. He had to think fast and think fast he did. He found an earlier version of said shuttle and we were aboard it and headed to our destination within minutes of deplaning. Or should I say regaining our freedom, sanity and wits. On this ride, which is incredible because you witness the sudden cultural change from Italian to Slovenian as you drive through the countryside, we met a very interesting and friendly professor from Maine who is on a Fulbright here for the past 5 months. yWe exchanged contact information and hope to have dinner or drinks with her before we leave for Zagreb.
A and N are asleep, of course. Im starving but can never seem to pass out like every other sleep deprived zombie. So, Im writing to you. This is of course your gain, and possibly mine, too, because writing out our ridiculous days for you will give me something to do while snoring emanates from the hall to my right. So, if you are reading this, know that you are saving my sanity until I get over this jetlag and with any luck my infamous insomnia.
LATER
Adsy downloaded the blogger app for me so blogging is now so simple even I can do it by phone! Here are the pics you've been waiting for. I have a hunch you may be underwhelmed but here goes anyway:
In the first photo you can see the Italian part of the trip to Slovenia closer to Venice. The Alps are there in the background faintly. In the second picture we are closer to Slovenia. (The picture is blurry not due to operator error but lack of recent use of Windex.). And the third is the view from the apartment's bathroom window.

La tua descrizione e molto pittoresca! Baci di "il poverino."
