I am terribly behind on the posts! Here's a whirlwind presentation of our first day trip to Amsterdam.
The Utrecht train station:
Views from the 25 minute intercity train ride (a little bit of country and then the outskirts and then, bam, you're there):
A canal on the walk to the Rijks Museum:
After a super sensory museum overload we walked around a little. A liked this store which sells only toothbrushes. Note the Ferris wheel in the window. Toothbrushes are riding on it.
An architectural detail:
D. Cohen lives here.
Heading back...but wait there's more. As if in a dream, while I was stupidly being a good tourist looking at trinkets in a tourist trap, albeit very nice trinkets, N ran in to tell me that A was talking to a friend of his outside. A whole group of his friends. I went out and sure enough he was. In our museumed-out zombie state, A had spotted his friend Tim and his family strolling by on the canal and so A yelled Tim's name thinking of course it's Tim, who else could it be. Turns out they'd just gotten off a plane from SF and were themselves zombifiedly wandering around in a jet lagged haze. And that is why I don't have a picture to document the momentous occasion.
